Come on guys gold sellers aren't that bad. I love it when they spam their adverts in GToB. Just give gold sellers a chance. It's the holidays after all, show that Christmas spirit.

I remember something being said on the guru forums how the in game economy hurts even if someone horded alot of gold or ecto and just stopped playing the game, so to my point wouldnt stupid people spending REAL MONEY actually in turn help more than to just ban the account and have the gold and items lost forever to hurt the economy. Anet isnt allowed to take items unless they were purchased by above methods, so the gold seller obviously isnt paying himself for gold, so in a way anet is actually hurting the economy by just banning the accounts. Even blizzard about 4 years ago ( I think) had to personally buy gold from korean gold sellers with REAL MONEY, bc it was still infact there virtual property on the account and they couldnt just simply steal it like a account hacker would. So i say either let people with too much money do it for anet (which im sure blizzard would have liked such help) , or admit they break there own rules and do the same actions we hate account stealers for. Again bc Im pretty sure gold sellers dont buy there own gold from themselves, so you couldnt liberate them from there own gold. Just saying bc i Sell my cousin gold all the time he doesnt have patience to farm so 10 bucks for 200-300k is cool with me and anet will never be able to do anything about it, hell i traded a friend 100k for a pack of cigs. Just thought i would put my 2 cents in on the matter (I also know my opinion doesnt matter, so no hate replies im aware gold selling is bad but when your outta cigs and need one who am i to turn the deal down).
Just saying they need a way to recirculate the lost ecto and gold and fix this poor GW economy, Its bad enough our real world economy sux, i play a fantasy mmo to get away from real world money probs

If they really cared, they would have sat in one of the farming districts, and banned the obvious bots.
I mean hell, most of the time they are all in the same guild, with names like lovemeguya, lovemeguyb, lovemeguyc...all taking the exact same movement patterns (which includes running into a sign, making a full 360 degree turn, then running out the door).

Your talking about bergens no doubt, funny bc i watched a guy setting his bot up got stuck on the same sign and i said in all chat "Oh man you better fix your bot you wont make money that way" then he logged after a few seconds, I was there reporting afk botters as well. I say rid the prob at the source, those bots turn into gold sellers alot of times. If you dont let them acumulate the gold the first time , thats less gold being lost to hurt the gw economy and no anoying spam bots latter.

How do you spot a "afk bot"?And whats the point of having a bot to make you be afk?
Sounds like you reported some perfectly normal players, you do know normal players also farm that area right?

xenex xclame u make a perfectly good point over the years i have found some signes of the person is botting
1) if you watch them run it is always in the same pattern
2) often guildless to disassociate themselfs
3) status says online but they never talk
4) form a line with others if they all go the same direction
now im not saying all of these are sure signs im just saying if they all happen at once theres a big chance the person is a bot

Yea, I'm reporting them, mainly for fun. It's a little mini game I play with my friend when were together: Once we see a spammer(who usually leaves district to avoid getting /report'ed), we split up hopping outposts, and whoever reports him first wins.

To be honest, I don't really have a problem with literal "gold-traders"
I mean, if I know a friend personally in real life and they offered me 100k ingame for 20$ to quickly buy something that is about to sell out, I would take the deal. |Friends do these kinds of things with each other and I see nothing wrong with that.
Of course, this is a whole different scenario than in-game gold sellers. Friends are way different.
You see, when we talk about hackers and gold selling advertisement, it's a whole different story. But I'm not commenting on that. Although I certalinly do not support that form of trade.
I also do not support being a tattle tale over farming.
There are quite a few guildless people here who farm using repeated actions.
And we ignore because we're fighting a mob and, oh, you know. Farming?
To intentionally scout out bots for farming seems kind of wrong to since your observations would accuse innocent players of botting when you "think" they are botting.
For example is Bergan Hot Springs feather farm. The farm is just so easy that anyone can do it and look like a bot.
That said, it is up to anet to catch bots.

It's fairly simple the way I see it. Most gold sellers fall into one of the following categories:
a) Hackers that steal accounts and sell off the stolen goods.
b) People that use bots (3rd party programs) to farm the game.
I think it's pretty undisputed that hacking/stealing is bad. Some people however seem to be promoting 3rd party programs. From what I see, they are being used to circumvent the way GW was designed to be played. As a matter of principle, I won't even use something as simple as texmod, let alone a farm bot.
I think it's cool if a friend wants to sell gold to a friend. It's not economically efficient to actually play the game (as it was intended, with no hacking or botting) and sell off your e-profits. $10 for 300k...and how long does it take to make 300k? So this kind of gold selling is fine in my books, but if the users fit into one of the categories I stated above, it is definitely wrong and should be reported and dealt with.

Ok WHAT!!! how do you spot a afk bot farmer?(also its not a bot to make you go afk what are you numb in the skull, afk bot meaning you the player is afk while the bot performs in game actions for you without your direct input) hmm idk the same way anet has since day one, simply watching them and try talking to them im sorry but your not farming and fighting mobs in a town DUH. Seriously think about what your saying first, you can respond to a simple hello or whats up if your in a town , and im sure your also way to busy running to a gate over and over with over 40 toons doing the same pattern to get out the door. Im sorry but i dont intentionally run into a sign before i exit a town EVERYTIME! I guess im just so leet sauce too being able to be on vent type to guildies, team , and respond to pointless pm's while im farming up gold. Ok i guess i could see 1 maybe 2 every once in a while bc i have just turned some music on and just didnt pay attention, but after getting pings in your ear from multi pm's you would prob notice.

You are the one that mentioned "afk bot", a bot that helps you afk.
What is a farming bot a bot that helps you farm.
All bots are "afk bots" if the person is not afk that it is a macro, it would be pointless to run a bot, while sitting at the computer and watch the screen.(and wouldn't that be kind of stupid since most of the bots dont even draw the game world, so you would be looking at a pretty boring screen.)

By not reporting a bot, you are indirectly helping weaken the Guild Wars economy and ultimately making Guild Wars suck more than it does. If someone loses their account, its because they were unlucky or irresponsable and the account should be reported regardless.

Most if not all the gold sellers include a web address, maybe A-Net should make www. etc. unuseable in anything but a pm, something along the same way that the game won't let you pick a pick a character name like Johnny F*cknuts, just a thought

The worst gold seller spamming and botting I have ever seen was an MMO by aeria games. It was all one server, so you could run into obvious bots. The GM's only cared about busting the people buying the gold, and would let the botters sit in the same zone constantly botting. They would ban IP strings and website names from chat, but the botters would always find a way around it. Eventually it seemed they just gave up, and so did I from the annoyance.

it will move to vvvvvv.asdf.com , ban the v's and it will move to \/\/ \/\/ \/\/.asdf.com, etc. etc.
I think they should focus more on stopping the bots, or endorse a controlled auction similar to Sony with EQ. Nobody would do business w/ hackers across seas if there is an endorsed option that takes a cut of each auction. They would make more money that way than with NCsoft Store.

Don't worry, just report whoever you see selling gold. Their accounts will not get banned. From the costumes update, we know that Anet is having financial problems. Ever think that Anet could be selling gold? It's their property, they can do whatever they want with it.
